Marblo…. Working with Marblo

Marblo is a very hard wearing & durable surface material with some exceptional properties. Care should be taken when specifying or using the material with regard to colour, thickness, un-supported spanning & appropriate substrates & sub-frames. The product has not been designed to be structural, and although it may possess some structural qualities we do not suggest the use of Marblo as a structural element

Standard Sheet Dimensions

When selecting Marblo translucent or opaque type material, the thickness and level of translucency may affect the original colour. If there is a requirement for this type of Marblo material to have back lighting, the source of lighting and its intensity will also change the original colour.

SHEET THICKNESSES: 6 mm 9 mm 12 mm 16 mm 18 mm 20 mm 26 mm CUSTOM
SHEET WIDTHS: 650 mm 760 mm 900 mm         Extra wide 1050mm (conditional)
SHEET LENGTHS: 2700 mm 3500 mm           Custom sheets can be manufatured

Colour Matching:

Although Marblo has an ever-increasing range of colours to choose from, you may require a special customised colour. Whether a project requires one or more sheets, Marblo has a unique colour matching service where both your colour and translucency can be nominated & matched, at a nominal additional cost. The easiest method is to provide us with a Dulux ™ or Pantone ™ Colour selection.

Liquid Inlay:

Signage or artwork can easily be liquid filled using a Marblo Liquid inlay and like Marblo sheets - liquid inlay colours can be matched to specification.

Engraving:

Engraving Marblo for logos or design patterns, we usually find that the best method to machine the product is via the use of CNC machinery (computer controlled routers) or hand routers.

Backlighting Marblo:

Most Opal & Pearl Marblo materials can be backlit. Depending on thickness, range, colour & even the lighting environment around the application, different advice will be given. Marblo can be backlit or front lit using a number of methods & lighting products including; Fluorescent Tubes, Neon Tubes, Halogen Bulbs, Thermo Luminescence Wire & Paper, Fiber Optics & LED’s. Circulatory Ventilation is important when using heat emitting light sources.

To avoid concentration of light or “Hot spots” many methods can be used including the use of a diffuser. It is also important to consider the supportive structure behind the Marblo where shadowing is a concern.

Seamless Joints:

One advantage of using the Marblo material is the ability to have seamless joints. This method of joining delivers the most benefits during a horizontal application such as a kitchen bench top, as it provides ease of cleaning reducing build up of bacteria.

All joints will be seamless, with Plain “Solid” colour unobtrusive; however with translucent ranges joints will be visible. Care should be taken during specification and nomination of joint positioning. When specifying Pearl material it is important to consider textural direction. With Opal materials a hairline joint is to be expected.

Feature Joints:

A feature joint (which can be done in many different ways) is a cost effective and practical method of installation. Normally we suggest the use of clear silicone both for expansion & maintenance. Depending on the application - different methods of featuring joining will be advised. Feature joints work well when using the product in vertical applications such as expansive wall cladding where expansion joints must be allowed.

Bending Marblo:

Most Marblo designer products are thermo-formable (bendable), but this requirement must be specified both at the time of specification and when ordered by the authorized fabricator. The standard solid colour series of Plain, Galaxy, Granada and Stone as well as the FRT Series are non-thermoformable. However they can be supplied as thermoformable grade on request.
Achievable radius in bending is affected by style, range & thickness of material as well as the dimensions of the piece that is going to be bent (ie. a wider & thicker piece will be more difficult to bend to a tighter radius)
For specific clarification on this, please contact Marblo Products or your authorised Marblo fabricator.

Staining & Chemical:

Although there is exceptionally high resistance in all ranges of Marblo Solid Series, Galaxy & Granada Series are deemed laboratory grade

Marblo Exposed:

We do not normally suggest the use of Marblo materials externally as fading or yellowing of colour may be experienced. This said, generally solid light colours perform better than darker & or translucent colours in exterior environments.
